🇩🇪 Burggymnasium Friedberg (Germany)

Burggymnasium Friedberg is a public secondary school in Friedberg, Hesse. There are about 65 teachers and 600 students at our school. Our school collects students from more than 20 ‘delivering’ schools (rural and urban) for the last three senior years in secondary education. That is why our students come with a very heterogeneous learning level, and it is very demanding to compensate for that. Since we only teach the last three years before the Abitur, the final exam which enables students to go to university, we can offer a wide range of subjects in the fields of math and natural sciences, language and literature, social sciences, history, information technologies, physical education, art, music and drama. In addition, we offer a number of clubs students can join voluntarily according to their interests. Our school has some experience in Comenius and Erasmus+ projects and as school we are active on eTwinning to cooperate with teachers and students from other European countries.

In our school, digital technologies are actively used in classes. All our classrooms will soon have smart boards and digital software to support lessons. At the moment we use laptops and projectors for research and presentations. Students bring in
their own tablets or borrow them from the school. We have got two computer rooms, which are used to provide (mainly) first year students with basic ICT skills. Our connections to the university in Darmstadt and companies and organizations dealing with AI enable us to gather first hand information on the opportunities AI offers. At the same time we want to keep a critical view on the developments in this field and ask about the impact they might have. We have successfully started to gather information and would like to continue. In the project we hope to profit from the experiences of our partners and would like to share ours.

There are 600 students in our school. Our students are between the ages of 16-19. Our students aim to gain a degree that allows them to study at university. They choose two majors for intensified studies. Our students come from a wide range of
economic and cultural backgrounds. Moreover, a growing number of our students has a migrant background. We try hard to support the students in their integrational and academic efforts In addition, there are students with different handicaps. Our
school offers psychological and educational support to students with personal problems and learning difficulties.
